Meet Candace, the Composer and Author of
Viva Concha!™ Rose of the Presidio
Candace Forest is an accomplished composer, lyricist and musician creating both vocal and instrumental music for solo, ensemble and orchestral groups. Trained as a classical pianist, her music is also deeply influenced by the jazz, folk and show music idioms. She has been a professional musician and entertainer since she was a teenager although at present, her main focus is on composing.
Her recent achievements beyond the completion of Viva Concha! Rose of the Presidio, include several performances of her symphonic works by the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra including All In This Together, a full length score written in collaboration with songwriter, Nancy Schimmel and orchestrator, Jay Matthews. Candace is the co- founder of SymphonyKids™ with Matthews, whose mission is to provide symphony orchestras with unique and socially relevant original music for family audiences.
Under the auspices of various arts organizations including the San Francisco Opera, Opera America and the Community Music Center, Candace has distinguished herself as an arts educator, teaching children and adults to sing and create operas and musical theater. She is former music director of both the San Francisco Children’s Chorus of the Community Music Center and Children’s Choir of the First Unitarian Church of San Francisco. Her unique method of vocal teaching, Singercise®, is currently being offered to elders in the Bay Area.
Candace is a three-time winner of the prestigious Parents’ Choice Gold Award for recordings with her Singing Rainbow Youth Ensemble, All In This Together, Head First & Belly Down and Speeney, Spawney, Go to the Moon (Sisters’ Choice Recordings, Berkeley). The American Library Association also recognized her for "Notable Recording" for Head First & Belly Down. A selection of “greatest hits” of the Singing Rainbow, Sun, Sun Shine-Songs for Curious Children, was recently released by Sisters’ Choice Recordings of Berkeley.
